| Hi, I am pretty sure that this is M. rhodantha. It has rather paler spines than many that I've seen in cultivation and also some in habitat, but I attach two photos, taken in April north of Pachuca which show very different spine colour, and these were no more than 10kms apart. This is one with the more "usual" spine colour, not far from Pueblo Nuevo on the road up from Mineral del Monte towards the Parque Nacional del Chico. and this looks much more like yours, and was just beside the road north (105) from Real del Monte and before the turning to Huasca de Ocampo. _________________ Chris43, moderator

| Here are two more rhodanthas from Hidalgo. The first photo shows a plant near El Encino (north of Actopan), the second shows a plant near Orizabita (north of Ixmiquilpan). Wolter ten Hoeve. | |
