Hi

Saw this one at the Huntington Botanical Gardens, just labelled Mmm species. Wondering if it is canalensis or less likely lindseya. MikeUnidentified at HBG Th_IMG_8831

Hi Mike,
I haven't seen a plant as old as that, with those yellow flowers, so I am a bit stretched to make a positive ID. It certainly would seem to me that canelensis is a strong possibility, though the body shape here is much more cylindrical than I'd expect to see. But that might just be the age of the plant.
Do you have a closer view of the spines and flower to check?

Hi Mike,

This is really useful. The number on the bottom right of the label should be the Plant Accession Number. Now in theory you should be able to contact HBC and ask them for the relevant information regarding Accession Number 92934 and it would be useful if you sent them the above pictures.
This could give use who collected the plant, when and were. I imagine it is going to be one of Woody Minnich's collections.
