In these days a plant received years ago from a Belgian friend is in flower.
This Mammillaria is labelled "albicans LAU 1374".
It seems to me not to be a Mammillaria albicans ….. but is the plant I received really Mammillaria LAU 1374?

Hi,

It looks like a half way between albicans and fraileana, which according to Hunt is just a subspecies of albicans. M. albicans can be found with both straight centrals and hooked centrals, and they can vary in colour although yours appear to be more of the fraileana colour. I can count about 16 white radials, which would suggest it is closer to albicans (14-21) than fraileana (11-12).

But whether this is Lau 1374, I'm not sure. I have one myself which I'll check out tomorrow and either post a photo or add more details about it. It dates back to 2006 when I had it as a small seedling from a Belgian friend (but not the one I think from whom you had yours).

In the list of Lau's reference numbers, 1374 is named as a form of albicans. So it seems he didn't completely think it looked like a typical m. albicans.

Here's a photo of my L1374. It has branched quite high up, though the original growing point is still well.
