This is about 2 inches (5cm) diameter. The black central spines stick straight up like a M matudae. Actually, I think this is a Mammillaria, but it does get confusing at times...

It looks a bit like a form of M.magnimamma which I have. I will be up at the glasshouse tomorrow and will take a picture.

This is exciting! Especially because Chris gave M magnimamma as his example of nomenclature (I could not have done that without the auto-spell checker!).

I can hardly believe that this is what I picked to ID! It matches pretty closely Hugo's picture on http://www.mammillarias.net/gallery/M/zuccariniana labelled
Mammillaria magnimamma ( syn. M. zuccariniana).

I appreciate all the help.
