And this is Mammillaria pectinifera (Solisia pectinata), at Tecamachalco, Puebla. There were only about +/- 50 plants at this site. just a few meters away the habitat had recently been destroyed by heavy machinery, so if there were more they must have been completely destroyed before I arrived.

It's a shame that some habitats were destroyed completely. They say it's the march of civilization.

Habitats in Mexico get destroyed real fast. A couple of earth movers and thousands of years of evolution are gone.

When I was in that area in 2005, our group leader wanted to stop between Tecamachalco and Alseseca, to find this species. It was built up, and mor eon the way. Luckily we found this species later to the west side of Cacalopan, but here too the march of building up the valley we were in certainly endangers this habitat as well.
