Thank you for your greetings, dear cactus farmers! And even more accurately, mammillarias lovers.
This summer I took a series of photos with M. apozolensis & others. And I just can't bring myself to dump them in the bin. These cacti have grown a bit and are getting more interesting.
They have no flowers, but they have fluff and prickles.

Four years ago I used blue clay when transplanting. I got tired of watching the process. The plants had grown a little older and required new containers. And over the years they have not bloomed. Perhaps they haven't matured yet. At the moment I have planted them in a long container 7 cm high. I have several other species planted in such containers. And I think they are better that way.

The blue clay was added at 50% to my mineral soil. In the photo, you can see that in the first case, the clay has been poured on top of the drainage. In the second version, the clay is mixed in. The third option is a control - a mixture of brick, zeolite, sand and granite topsoil.
As there was plenty of space left, I supplemented with m. albata sanciro. They are on the left.

Yes, surprisingly the cacti survived. This clay significantly increased the moisture capacity and lowered the permeability of the substrate. The plants with the clay on top show signs of exposure to excess moisture. But apparently the location in an open place, the sun's heat and draughts evaporated the water rather quickly. It seemed to me that this clay was not exactly what the cacti needed. It is alkaline and inhibits development. And flushing the soil with rainwater at least somehow saved the situation. It looks like I need to buy some fertiliser!

Near Realejo, which lies somewhat north of Guadalcázar, you can find pink-flowering formosas. See my WTH 987 photos on Maurillio's pages on M. formosa. About 20 km on the old road from the MEX-57 to Cerritos, you can also find pinkish-flowering formosas. Although my photos of WTH 1065 do not really show that pinkish flower, my WTH 1065 is from the same location as Rog 326, which has light-pink flowers. These locations are not very far from Charco Blanco, so I am not really surprised that the Charco Blanco formosa also has somewhat pinkish flowers. It could be that M. brauneana is a better name than M. formosa for these pinkish flowering plants.

Thank you, friends, for the congratulations! Hi all! To K.W.: - New cats must catch old mice. All these photos of mammillaria flowers were taken by me last summer. My cacti are now in overwintering. "Some difficulties" prevented me from fully capturing last season's blooms. But there is still some available. To Chris43: - I try not to change the tags on my cacti. Confusion is possible. And, of course, formosa can be viewed broadly or narrowly. Yes, time passes and the plants finally show their flowers. Sometimes it's confusing. I give you a photo of the formosa albiflora Charco Blanco. If my other formosas are a bit as described, the albiflora seems very shaggy to me. She hasn't bloomed yet, so surprises are possible. To Wolter: - Thanks for your clarification. I thoroughly enjoy looking at the photos from the grow sites. Huge diversity material for comparison.

M. nejapensis. Quite a long time ago I bought seeds of cultivated plants. When the seedlings started to grow up, I discovered some differences. A third of the seedlings were less pubescent. Now one plant has produced red flowers. Let's wait a bit and see how the second plant blooms.

It is always interesting to see your photos, Vladimir. There must be good growing conditions in your country. The nejapensis with reddish flowers must be a hybrid. The melaleuca which you showed also looks like a hybrid to me, possibly with baumii. In nature, there are 2 forms of melaleuca, a high altitude form and a low altitude form. The low altitude form is somewhat less robust than the high altitude form, perhaps it has some baumii- or sphaerica-genes in it. Here is a photo of the flowering high-altitude form (note the black and white spines, which gave rise to the name, mela = black, leuca = white), a fruit and flower bud are also present. The second photo is of a hybrid, possibly with sphaerica. Long ago, I had only 1 melaleuca and when it formed a fruit, I sowed the seeds and grew the plant of the second photo, which looked very different from the parent plant. In those days bumblebees could easily enter my collection, and they must have caused the hybridization.
Wolter.

Hello Wolter! Thanks for the tip. My melaleuca has no black radial prickles. I have reviewed the photos from the internet and found that Koeres once suggested a light coloured melaleuca. Perhaps the source of the seeds is in great affinity with his plants. A similar case happened a week ago with M. dixanthocentron flavicentra L 680. My plants have rather long dark red centrals. Not the light yellow ones. I subsequently discovered that the photo from the Mesa Garden website matches my plants. They are indeed grown from these seeds. Except that MG has the addendum "CV". I think this is a normal explanation.
In my case, it's pretty trivial. A bird in the hand or a crane in the sky. In my region I did not come across seeds with field numbers, bought what was on sale. And often I don't know the origin of the seeds. Most likely they come from plants that are old enough to be my grandmother. Three to five generations, no less. This topic could be developed further, but if you look narrowly at the collection, you could end up with nothing at all. And if you add errors in seed packaging and germination... This is me imagining things. Still, I need to do translations from Latin more often.

Hi Vladimir,
Your melaleuca of a later post (Feb. 23) is probably the low altitude form of melaleuca. This Feb. 23 melaleuca has less radial spines than the earlier melaleuca, of which I thought that it is a hybrid. A few years ago, Elton Roberts (USA) published an article about melaleuca, which you can see on http://www.afm-mammillaria.de/Probeartikel/Probeartikel_1_2018.pdf Erich Schrempf then wrote in a reply: the Elton Roberts is is not melaleuca. Well, The Elton Roberts plants are probably the low altitude form which was discovered by Glass & Foster (Gl.&F. 666) and which they gave the name M. melaleuca (M. sphaerica var. pseudomelaleuca). Apparently, they felt that it differed from the real melaleuca, because it did not fully conform to the original description of M. melaleuca. They wrote about it in JMS 1968, 8(5), 63-68 and Cactus and Succulent Journal (US) 1984, 56(1), 16-19. It could well be that not only Glass and Foster have brought the low altitude form into circulation, but Köhres as well, because Michel Lacoste and several Germans have also found the low altitude form.
