| Thanks Delandmo, thanks Jonathan!!! I agree with the opinion of Jonathan. I think 2-5 plants are form of M. compressa. If I understand the M. magnimamma has curved spines, no? This is M. magnimamma, yes? 27.02.2018 Near Mineral del Monte. Hidalgo, Mexico. | |

| I would call number 1 M. priessnitzii, number 2 and 5 centralifera. Number 3 and 4 are probably also centralifera, but it looks like they have shorter spines because they grow in a less exposed position. Of course, you might consider centralifera as no more than a form of compressa. The Mineral del Monte plant I would call magnimamma. M. magnimamma often has curved spines, but I think that at some locations you can find them with nearly straight spines.

| Dear Wolter, Thanks for your reply! Probably this plant can be called M. compressa ssp. centralifera. Here is another plant from this group that I do not know, perhaps M. magnimamma? 6.03.2018 Near Santa Maria del Rio SLP, Mexico. | |

| In Pilbeam's book M. centralifera is indeed considered a subspecies of M. compressa.
I label the plant near Santa Maria del Rio as M. saint-pieana. Reppenhagen reported it from that area, and I found similar plants in that region. I found them at the beginning of the road to Cañada de Yañez, east of Santa Maria del Rio. But M. saint-pieana is probably no more than a form of M. gigantea.
