| I would suggest that it is related to either M. mazatlanensis or possibly M. sheldonii. Both of these species are quite variable, though I haven't seen one that is quote like your plant. Where did it come from? _________________ Chris43, moderator

| Thanks for the offer, but at the moment I am not expanding my collection, and also I now only grow plants whose original habitat is documented by having a field collector's number. _________________ Chris43, moderator

| Looking at pictures online, I notice Mammillaria insularis has similarities to your plant, but I am not an expert, so just throwing this into the mix. This is a pic of insularis from Pinterest

| Neither of these plants look like I think M. insularis should look like! It is a low, sub-spherical plant - see it here even when quite old. I've never seen one grow into a tall cylindrical form. I suppose it is possible given specific and untypical growing conditions, but I'd have thought it would have died first. _________________ Chris43, moderator

| I thought I'd throw in the name as I came across the pic and thought it looked like the plant. I have now also looked at the cactiguide website, those photos corroborate insularis as a compact plant. Whatever the name, I quite like the plants shown masquerading as "insularis". Would like one for myself. |
