About Mammillaria albata.....
"It is interesting to see that Pilbeam refers M. albata to M. geminispina ssp. leucocentra, but that Hunt, in the New Cactus Lexicon refers M. albata to M. hahniana. I can quite well understand the latter opinion, because the areas of M. hahniana and M. albata overlap each other, so that it can be difficult to decide whether a plant at a certain location is albata or hahniana.
M. leucocentra is, in my opinion, something very different from M.albata. I think that Helmut Rogozinski and Wolfgang Plein would probably call all these plants M.saetigera. "

"You ask me what do I think of M. albata? My honest answer is that I don't really know.......
But......having seen Mammillaria geminispina in Hidalgo and its wide variation in spine colours and numbers, I personally doubt M. leucocentra as a subspecies, but because of its separation, it could be a good species. But M. albata is for me a redescription of the various forms of M. hahniana which the Germans would say is M. saetigera, since the M. hahniana that we know as a long haired plant is nothing other than a redescription of M. klissingiana, though of a disjunct population, which has never been found in habitat, despite many people looking over many years."
