Greenhouse insulation

I line my greenhouse with bubble wrap for the winter. I've just finished doing it, and yet again I am reminded what a boring job this is. It does reduce the light level a bit, at least in winter time, but I wonder what effect it woul dhave on growth and flowering if I left it up all year round.

Has anyone experience of leaving bubble wrap up all year round?

Hi Chris, I have read in a magazine of the British Cactus and Succulent Society that a cactus grower in Britain always leave the bubble all year long. And from what he said it had any effect on growth or flowering. I think if you leave it all year long it will also protect your plants in the summer. My greenhouse is in polycarbonate so I don't have this problem. In summer my plants are protected from the sun and I have never had so many blooms.

My old 10 x 8 glasshouse was a hybrid between glass on top, back and front and polycarbonate sides. In winter it was double bubbled wrapped and it did make a difference to the fuel bill. In summer I would take the polycarbonate sides off but leave the bubble up on top, front and back. Plant growth and flowering was excellent and I do not think it had any negative effect on plant growth. I would certainly recommd using it.
Now I do not need to bubble wrap the glasshouse but I do intend to put the plants outside during this summer, into open frames.

I might try it for a year and see what happens - which I guess means a year and a bit, at leats until 2010 flowering period.
