Yes you are quite right it should be M.lasiacanth subsp magallanii.
I was using Pilbeam's book to check the spelling. In the book he mantained M.magallanii has a species based on its 'quite different solitary, columnar habit'.
Hunt places it has a subspeices of lasiacanta althought this could change has the Fizt-Maurice's are working on the classification of series Lasiacanthae at the momment.
