Is this mealy bug damage?

I have a number of plants with thick wool covering at their centres. Just recently I have noticed a covering of white dust on some of them, which I thought was just from the wool. Now I'm wondering if this might be due to mealy bug activity. Has any one experienced this?

I know what you mean wrt the dust. In most cases it is just as you say, from the wool, especially at this time of year as the plants swell up once watering has restarted. It wouldn't do any harm if you did a bit of gentle probing into the actual wool, just in case.
