| It is something from series Polyacanthae, but I doubt that it is rekoi, because there are no hooked central spines.

| On https://mammillaria.forumotion.net/t1288-mammillaria-rekoi you will find photos of M. rekoi SB581 and ML353 with hooked centrals. Also shown there is a photo of Rep 717 (Walter Hellinx collection) without hooked centrals. Growing conditions might be a factor in producing hooked or only straight centrals. Reppenhagen writes that M. rekoi has 4 - 6 central spines, of which the lower one is the longest and often hooked. The photo of a plant in his 2-volume book does not show any hooked centrals, however. The plant, which looks as if it would appreciate more light, could also be related to M. ernestii, centraliplumosa or virginis. Wolter ten Hoeve. | |
