I bought this plant at ELK in 2006. I had my doubts at the time, but now it is in flower, I am convinced that it is not pilispina because of the hooked central spine. Hunt (A New Review of Mammillaria Names) says that sanluisensis is referrable to pilispina, but that there are plants in circulation bearing this name which are referrable to M. leucantha because of the hooked spine. M. leucantha is referred now to M. crinita ssp. crinita, but to my mind this looks closer to M. bocasana ssp. eschausieri. Its in a 7 cm pot.

Hello Chris,
Looks like eschauzierii to me too. No doubts, this is not a pilispina.

Here's a picture from T. Linzen. It came from the looseleaf collection

Yes, that is very much like my pilispina. To be honest, I had forgotten about the label on this plant, and suddenly realised that it was not sitting in the right part of the staging - now moved to be with its bocasana friends!

Chris, for me it looks like M. bocasana ssp. eschauzierii too, as Hugo said. Below you can see my M. pilispina.
