M. gasseriana Boed. in Zeitschr. Sukk. 3 : 75, with fig. 1927.
Solitary, bright green, covered with white spines, 4-5 cm. high, 3~4 cm. in diam.;
Tubercles in 31 and 21 spirals, cylindric, about 8 mm. long, and 3-4 mm. thick.
Areoles elliptic, with white wool, axils sparsely woolly.
Central spine 1, 5-6 mm. long, hooked black; radial spines 35-40, 3-5 ram. long, whitish, setaceous and interlacing.
Flowers about 15 mm. long, reddish white, the outer segments with dark salmon-coloured mid-stripe; stigmas 6, greenish.
Fruit 2 cm. long, red, appearing about 1 year after the flowers.
MEXICO: (Coahuila), from a ranch near Tacubaya; no specimen is known to have been preserved, and the illustration cited will serve as
type instead.
