Description: Body spherical, later cylindrical, to 7 (-10) cm diameter, 10-30 cm long, later from the body and offsetting from the base. Offsets can be easily separated and often already have roots. Tubercles pale green to green.
Axils very white-woolly, occasionally with some short bristle hair. Areoles approx. 2-3 mm around, with white wool when young. Radial spines 9-16, 3-6 mm long, those at the sides and lower and the longest, sharp, horizontally spreading white, occasionally with a dark point. Central spines 2-4,6-9 mm long, comparatively long, acicular, cream-white to brownish, darker at the tip.
Flowers bowl to funnelshaped, sulphur-yellow, to 10 mm in diameter and long. External petals greenish yellow with a thin, more greenish to red-brown, centre line. Internal petals linear lanceolate, pointed, entire, sulphur-yellow. Stamens longer than the style. Stigma
lobes 4-5, yellow. Filaments white. Stamens pale yellow. Fruits short clavate, with a little perianth scar, 6 mm in diameter, 10-15 mm long, dirty-white and delicate pink, then yellowish-brown at the tip (Fig 10). Seeds mussel-shaped, brown, 0.7-0.8 mm long, 0.6 mm wide, 0.5 mm thick. Testa with tabular-concave, long cells whose central area is surrounded by a little raised anticlinal border in a U or Ω shape.
