M.hubertmulleri REPPENHAGEN
This is retained at species level and is based on Repp. 1460 from Zacapalco, Morelos, Mexico.
This plant is close to M.nunezii especially the form known as M.nunezii var. solisii from which it differs by having a simple stem,
fewer and darker radial spines at 14-22, it flowers later and is self sterile. The fruit ripens quicker. This plant is well known in collections, is reasonably recognisable but the debate is still on for whether it deserves full species status.
