M.huiguerensis REPPENHAGEN
This new species is based on Repp.975 from La Huiguera, Zacatecas, Mexico.
REPPENHAGEN compares the species to M.wagneriana, the latter in brackets:
TUBERCLES 14-16mm. long, 10-14mm. wide (7mm. long and wide);
RADIAL SPINES 3-15mm. long, thin acicular, flexible (to 25mm. long, awl shaped, not flexible.
CENTRAL SPINES to 30mm. long, barely thicker than the radials, flexible, brown to black (to 50mm. long, awl shaped, thick, not flexible, glassy yellow to brown);
FLOWERS wide funnelform, not fleshy, bright satin pink (ventricose-campanulate, fleshy, thick, muddy white or brownish yellow);
INNER PETALS ciliate (entire);
STYLE white (yellow, carmine above);
FILAMENTS above are like a whiplash, white (symmetrical, thick carmine);
FRUIT pyriform to clavate, 20-27mm. long, 7-12mm. wide (clavate, 15-26mm. long, 4-6mm. thick). In this case the photograph
REPPENHAGEN provides does have some similarities to M.petterssonii so we have a similar difference in opinion as for the last species.
