MAMMILLARIA FELIPENSIS
Reppenhagen in Die Gattung Mammillaria Nach Dem Jetzigen Stand Meines Wissen, 1987.
SERIES: Stylothelae.
DESCRIPTION
BODY: Simple, depressed globose to elongate globose, 20-60mm. high x 30-40mm. wide.
TUBERCLES: Cylindric, 7-8mm. long x 3-4mm. wide, dark green, with watery sap.
AXILS: With hairs the length of the tubercles.
AREOLES: With short yellowish white wool.
CENTRAL SPINES: 3-4, 7-12mm. long, acicular, pubescent, lower longest and hooked, white below,
dark brown to blackish brown at tip.
RADIAL SPINES: 25-30, 5-10mm. long, hairlike, pubescent, interlocking, white.
FLOWERS: 14-16mm. long and wide. Outer perianth segments pale brown with white margins, inner perianth segments whitish, filaments white, anthers pale yellow, style white, stigma lobes 4-5, pale yellow.
FRUIT: 3-10mm. long x 3-4mm. wide, reddish.
SEED: Greyish black.
TYPE LOCALITY: San Felipe, Guanajuato, Mexico, 24.8.72, Repp. 636. Holotype at the Zurich Herbarium, Switzerland.

NOTES: Reppenhagen compares this species with M. monancistracantha.
As the plants purchased become more adult no doubt comparisons can be made with the description to see if the plant from Lagos de Moreno is in fact M. felipensis. Mammillaria felipensis
Hunt refers this taxon to synonymy with M.nana; to my way of thinking it has more to do with M.crinita.
The Fitz Maurices are of the opinion that it falls within the concept of M.crinita, which in their opinion embraces M.nana also.
