Mammillaria buxbaumeriana - type locality Tierra Blanca, Guanajuato, Mexico, Repp. 2037.
Body: Caespitose, globose to oblong, 40-120mm high x 20-50mm wide.
Tubercles: Conic, 7-9mm long x 5-7mm wide, dark green, with watery sap.
Axils: Naked.
Central spines: 1-4, 5-8mm long, acicular, straight, smooth, brown to black.
Radial spines: 15-20, 7-11mm long, fine acicular, uppers longest, smooth, brown at the base, then white tipped black.
Flowers: Bell shaped, 18-20mm' long x 16-18mm wide, yellowish white.
Fruit: Clavate, 10-18mm long x 4-5mm wide, reddish.
Seeds: Brown.
Reppenhagen compares this discovery with M. densispina, the latter having more central and radial spines.
The new species is also not self fertile.
Reppenhagen's photograph looks like a very dark spined variety of M. densispina.
