| M. caerulea Craig, Mamm. Handbook 306, f i g . 278. 1945; Cact. Succ. Journ. Amer, 18: 114. 1946 Stem simple, clavate; sap milky; flowering a x i l s woolly, but bristles typically absent. Central spines 3-6, mostly 4, 8-10mm. long, dark brown at f i r s t becoming reddish chalky brown; Radial spines 18-20, l-5mm. long, setaceous, white. Fls. 15mm. long, 12mm. in diam., the perianth-segments vfhitish with pale pink or pinkish tan midstripe; Stigmas 2~3 pale yellow. Mexico: Coahuila, near Saltillo. Received by Craig from Schmoll. Although this species i s described as typically without bristles in the axils, it may be related to M. ritteriana Boed. (especially the var . quadricentralis Craig), which was also collected in Coahuila (Higueras, between Monterrey and Saltillo ) .
