Stem simple, pronouncedly tuberous at the base and bearing the dried remains of old tubercles, bluish, with milky sap;
tubercles trigonous; axils sparsely woolly.
Central spine 1, 6mm. long, straight, acicular, brownish tipped;
radial spines about 16, somewhat weaker, grey-white, the lower longer up to 6mm. long; all spines finely pubescent.
Fls. 3cm. in diameter; outer perianth segments rose with brownish mid-stripe, inner white with rose mid-stripe; stigmas 5, pale yellow-green . Fr. clavate, red; seeds described as dark brown, pitted.
Mexico: Coahuila, near San Pedro. Described from living plants imported into Germany
