Mammillaria bucareliensis var. multiflora - type locality Ciudad Maiz, San Luis Potosi, Mexico, Repp.355a.
Body: Solitary, depressed globose, 25-70mm high x 40-80mm wide. Tubercles: Pyramidal, 10mm long x 8-10mm wide, deep green, with milky sap.
Axils: Naked or with a little wool.
Central spines: 2, 2-45mm long, lower longest, acicular, straight, yellowish tipped black;
Radial spines: 3-5, 1-5mm. long, acicular, uppers shortest, straight, tipped brown.
Flowers: Bell shaped, 18-20mm long and wide, pinkish carmine with a deeper mid-stripe. Fruit: Clavate, 12-25mm long x 3-5mm wide, red. Seeds: Brown.
Reppenhagen compares this variety to M. bucareliensis.
Seed and plants have been available from many sources including Uhlig and the Mammillaria Society.
I believe this species has also been distributed as M. zuccariniana and Mesa Gardens still lists M. zuccariniana from Ciudad Maiz.
