| Mammillaria bucareliensis var. multiflora - type locality Ciudad Maiz, San Luis Potosi, Mexico, Repp.355a. Body: Solitary, depressed globose, 25-70mm high x 40-80mm wide. Tubercles: Pyramidal, 10mm long x 8-10mm wide, deep green, with milky sap. Axils: Naked or with a little wool. Central spines: 2, 2-45mm long, lower longest, acicular, straight, yellowish tipped black; Radial spines: 3-5, 1-5mm. long, acicular, uppers shortest, straight, tipped brown. Flowers: Bell shaped, 18-20mm long and wide, pinkish carmine with a deeper mid-stripe. Fruit: Clavate, 12-25mm long x 3-5mm wide, red. Seeds: Brown. Reppenhagen compares this variety to M. bucareliensis. Seed and plants have been available from many sources including Uhlig and the Mammillaria Society. I believe this species has also been distributed as M. zuccariniana and Mesa Gardens still lists M. zuccariniana from Ciudad Maiz. From "The Journal of the Mammillaria Society" - Volume 29 n.4 - November 1989 Mammillaria bucareliensis v. multiflora REP 355a REP 355a - Zimapan, 1900m - Hidalgo - Mexico
