I have no idea how old, Fabio, I've been its custodian for 5 years, since when it has added 4 heads, and it was sold by Panarotto in Italy. I thought it an extravagance when I bought it, as the postage was quite expensivet, but it has repaid me with its flowers and its growth.

That would make it 13 years old. I have a small plant, maybe 3cm in diameter, that I bought from Rysavy Kaktusy two years ago. It has grown very little since then (2009 was an awfull year for me due to a persistent problem with RSM), making it true to its name (lenta means "slow" in portuguese and I guess in latin too). Things are looking better this year and I can't wait for my plant to put on some girth and to flower

I have a couple of other lenta plants, much smaller, and really much slower in growing as well. I don't know if it is true, but from what you say, and from what I have observed, one might hypothesize that they are slow up to a certain size and then behave more normally.
Does anyone else have any observations?

PostSubject: This M.lenta has been in my collection for about 30 years growing steadily from a single head. It flowers well, producing 3-4 good flushes every year. This picture was taken about 5 years ago, since then it's moved on to a 250mm bowl.   Mammillaria lenta Icon_minitimeMon Jul 19, 2010 9:47 am

What a beauty, Phil. Maybe my single-headed plant will look like this in 25 years, or so (I better find myself a comfy chair...Mammillaria lenta Icon_lol )
