PostSubject: What is Rep 1215 ?   What is Rep 1215 ? Icon_minitimeSun Jun 13, 2010 2:20 pm

I was recently given two plants labelled has being M.melanocentra Rep 1215, grown from seed from the Piltz 2004 seed list ( P 3495 ), via the UK Mammillaria Society 2005 seed distribution.
I have checked 3 different sources of the Reppenhagen field list including the one on the AfM web-site and they all give Rep 1215 has being M.plumosa from Huasteca Caynon, Coahuila.
I then contacted J.Piltz who reffered me to the AfM 1979 Reppenhagen field list were he says it states Rep 1215 to be sp. green body, Huasteca Caynon. I do not have a copy of this list so cannot confrim this.
The nearest M.melanocentra on the 3 field lists I have looks is Rep 1218a.
It would seem there has been a mix up somewhere along the line. Neither of these numbers appear in the Reppenhagen books. Has anyone grown or still grows either of these collections and may be able to shed some light on the matter.

Tam.

I do have a plant labelled Mamm. sp.n. Huasteca, which I have sown in 1983. This plant clearly is a melanocentra with pink (light-pink) flowers. It could well be the same as your Rep 1215, because in the early 1980s I have ordered seed from Uhlig Kakteen a few times. Uhlig Kakteen carried many of the new Reppenhagen plants in his seed list in those days.

Hi Ento,

Thanks for highlighting this. That's the plant and I must of missed it first time around.
I have e-mailed Wolfgang Plein on the matter and will post if I hear anything worth reporting.

I have had a reply back from Wolfgang Plein and be believes that there has been a mistake in the nursery list and that the correct number should be Rep 1218a.
