Alfred Lau described 8 forms of M. huitzilopochtli to which he gave his field numbers 066, 066a, 066b, 1495 (the brown curly spined form known as ssp. niduliformis), 1500, 1557, 1558 and 1586.

I am looking for information about the last three forms. Specifically if they are in cultivation anywhere? And fairly obviously if anyone knows of seed for sale or better still, plants. But primarily it is information at this stage.

M.huitzilopochti Lau 1586 was the last cactus Lau ever collected in Mexico which was in Oct 1989. From November 1989 all of Lau's post was being intercepted by the authorities and all the plant material (seed and cuttings) were being confiscated.
He did manage to get some seed out of Mexico by giving it to friends who were going to the U.S and would post it from there on his behalf, but it was only very small amounts posted to folk who had been loyally supporting him over the many years.
He also took small amounts of seed, taken from plants in his own collection, with him when he gave talks outside Mexcio.
By the end of 1990 Lau had almost given up on the cactus and had moved into other plant families because of the many severe restrictions put in place by the authorities regarding cactus (Lau letters, November 1990 onwards).
In 1993 he did get permission from the authorities which would have allowed him to propagate from the plants he had in his own collection, even thought they had already told him that his collection was "illegal and belonged to the state". He was planning to put out and seed and plant list in 1994 but that project never hapen.
Has for myself I do not believe that these, and the other later field collections, made it out of Mexico and will never be seen only to be a number on a list.
