This plant budded up in the autumn last year, but to my knowledge the buds never opened, and looked dried up, so I was surprised to see this one was swelling up after the first watering, and is now fully out.

However as I was taking the photo, I noticed that it has two white seed pods formed, and these were from where the apparently dried up buds were.
I can't imagine that there were many insects around in the early winter, but somehow the flowers must have become fertilised. I haven't heard of cleistogamous flowering before, but could this be the reason for these seed pods?

I've never seen hernandezii with fruit, so I can't tell. I thought that the fruit was more imbedded in the body. This was written in the first description: " fruit apparently developing and remaining in the stem"

Yes, that occurred to me as well, but those are fruits for certain. I suppose it may be that the seeds are not distributed through them, and are at / in the body end. I hope others with this plant might see this post and share their experiences. Its a bit of a puzzle to me.
