PostSubject: Mammillaria - New & Again - a new book by John Pilbeam   Fri Aug 18, 2017 12:16 pm

I have just received my copy of this new book by the highly respected Mammillaria authority and author, John Pilbeam. In my view it is a superb up to date review of the genus, and one which every Mammillaria enthusiast should have, whether they have previous books by him or not. Its taxonomy is based on Cites Cactus Checklist of 2016, which some may feel a little restrictive, but he takes great pains to detail the many other species names which have been subsumed into its strict taxonomy. John's aim, from my reading of the book, is not to take sides on naming, but to show through the wealth of wonderful photos how utterly glorious the genus Mammillaria is, and also how variable some species are. In my view, he succeeds splendidly in this.

I am sure he will be selling it widely at meetings and events over the coming year, and one of these will be at ELK in September. However, details of it and how to order are to be found on John's website.

In UK, it is £35 or £40 with postage and packing. At ELK....40€ sounds about right.

Good morning Mr. Chris,

on the ELK can I buy a book?
Or do I have to order it before and Mr Pilbeam then brings it to the ELK?

Thanks and best regards,

K.W.

That's a very beautiful M. [decipiens subsp.] camptotricha, K.W. (if it's that)! But it is no surprise, your plants are always impressive.

KW, I believe that John will bring a stock of books with him to ELK, he usually does and with this one I'm pretty certain it'll be there. I don't know what the demand will be like or how many he will bring, so it might be worth dropping him an email to make sure he reserves one for you. I'll pm you his email.

Chris and Derek,
thanks for the hints!

Yes, Mr. Pilbeam is really very friendly.
I wrote to him today, after an hour I already had an answer.

He brings me a book for the ELK and signs it.

Best wishes

K.W.
