PostSubject: Some plants and some views of the collection   Sun May 28, 2017 3:12 pm

This last week or two has seen my collection burst into flower. Here are a few of the plants -

Mammillaria pettersonii JLH950739, North west of Jerez (rd to El Porvenir) in Sierra Los Cardos 4.1 miles from dam, Zacatecas.

Mammillaria humboldtii MG702.3

Mammillaria bombycina (no details on this one)

Mammillaria carmenae Lau1223, old plant, from original Lau seed.

And some views of part of the collection:

Good evening Chris,

thank You for the insight into your collection!
My favorite, if I may say that, is Mammillaria pettersonii.
I love these looks in the greenhouses of the plantfriends.

Thank You very much,

K.W.

This is a Mammillaria magnimamma, from seed that I collected from some plants at Pena del Aire, north east of Santa Maria Regla in Hidalgo. It was a nice plant, but nothing special until today when for the first time it burst into flower. I am used to seeing pink flowers, yellow flowers, and variations of these on M. magnimamma plants, but these flowers are lovely with their white throats.

Next is a plant of M. compressa (bernalensis) that I won in a raffle at the Mammillaria Society AGM in 2005. The plant came from John Pilbeam originally, and has added a good number more heads since.

This is my M. antesbergeriana Lau 1163 that I bought from Kent Cacti is 1993. It must like my new greenhouse better than the old, as it has produced a nice ring of flowers, rather than just the one or two of previous years.

And last for now is a large plant of M. sphacelata Lau 1156 that used to belong to Bill Maddams, and which also is in flower for the first time for me.

I'm interested in this plant, what species is this? Is that a Mammillaria pilensis?

I have this plant labelled as M. wagneriana Lau 1529, which I acquired from Tony Irons in 2008.
I do have a plant which I acquired as M. hamilton-hoytea v. pilensis Rep 800 in 1993, but I can't immediately identify it in these photos, as it probably is hiding behind another. From memory, it has very light cream flowers.
I'm away for a week now, but will take a photo when I'm back and add it here if you want to see it in detail.

I obviously forgot to do the photo when I got back, and of course the flowering is over.
However, to make up for it, here are some from today:

Mammillaria bertholdii - two different clones

Mammillaria tetrancistra, grafted, horrible plant until the flowers come.

Mammillaria baumii ML465

Mammillaria johnstonii Lau 1434

Mammillaria guelzowiana SB495

Mammillaria lenta

Today, even though the weather hasn't bene the best, I was pleased to see these in the greenhouse.

Mammillaria herrerae, more flowers now after just 3 a couple of weeks ago.

Mammillaria guelzowiana, also second flowering.

Mammillaria fraileana, straight spined form.

Mammillaria fraileana, normal hook spined form.

Mammillaria mainiae

Neolloydia conoidea f. grandiflora, the form with no central spines and larger flowers (sic!).

Mammillaria hernandezii yesterday in the sun.

Mammillaria plumosa

and a plant that I acquired as Mammillaria guerreronis, but I now have my doubts, and wonder if it could be M. pilcayensis (spinosissima). I'd welcome views.

Quite a few of my M. rhodantha forms are stil in flower, as well as M. karwinskiana, M. tayloriorum, and M. brandegeei. Its turned rather colder now, and the plants are dry, so maybe this is the end for this year.
