Hi all,

This question appeared on another forum, apologies to those who have already seen it.

With all the terrible floods present at the moment in the UK and several other documented climatic disasters around our globe, what one plant would you choose to save from your collection, if you were able to, if confronted with a similar situation.

Good morning Derek,

my dogs/cats, my cats/dogs and the first cactus I can grab!
And, if it is possible - the seeds that I have collected.

Best wishes

K.W.

P.S. We have so much luck here in Köln. When I see the reports from the UK and the U.S., I am very touched.

Like K.W. I would grab my 6 cats then a nice large M. plumosa.  That cactus would ride comfortably in my arms, pocket or bag without pricking me and I could easily propagate more more plants from the tubercles.  Were I to need a pillow my big clump of plumosa would be a good place to rest my weary head.  Come to think of it that plumosa resembles a head of cauliflower.

I'll grab my wife and one unidentified coryphantha which I'm waiting to flower for many years. Maybe it will flower this year Wink

I would choose a large multi-headed plant that I have of Mammillaria columbiana, which was collected as a seedling by Doug Donaldson, who was my BCSS Branch secretary for many years until his untimely death a couple of years ago. He collected it in 1982, near Sogamoso in the province of Santander, Columbia.
