PostSubject: Where to find/buy?   Sat Mar 31, 2012 11:40 am

Good morning

I'm searching for two specific Mammillaria and can not find it.

Are they: Mammillaria sempervivi and M. schwarzii

Do you know where can I buy them?

Many thanks!!!

I don't know which country you live in, so postage and CITES might be a deterrent, but within the EU, I've always found Il Sole rarita botaniche a very good source of quite cheap plants. They are young, but I have had very few failures.
They list schwarzii and sempervivi at the moment.

Hello
Take a look here:
http://cactus-aventures.com/Catalogo_KAKTITOS_Plantas_2010/KAKTITOS_CACTUS.html

I never ordered anything at them, but one of the nurserymen is Joel Lode (Cactus adventure magazine), trustworthy person. They propose Mammillaria schwarzii , and they are nearest you -perhaps too far ?-.
The site does not seem updated for a while and it seems to me that Joel has had health concerns, perhaps it is better to contact them before ordering (maybe even you will find the second Mammillaria) .
Good research.

The only problem (for me, perhaps not for others) is tha there is no location data for Joel's plants. I suspect that these are seed catalogue references.

I have bought seeds from him and asked if he has location data for those which had JL numbers, but never got a reply. I asked again, and was just told - from various sources.

I like to grow plants which have a published collection number, so that I know that the plant should be like those in habitat (apart from cultural differences). This is not a guarantee, of course, that the seed from which the plant was grown was pure, but does improve the chnaces that it is, after perhaps several generations.

If anyone has a JL location list, I'd love to see it.......anyone???

Hello Chris
Thank you for your very important remark (I'm starting to be seriously affected by the obsession of the number of collection Wink )
As I wrote above, I have never ordered plants from Joel Lode (too far from my location). I have not commanded him seeds either (there is a great provider in France and very some associations active and i'm a small sower). I am not advised of the problem on it's field number.
All I can say -a subscriber to his magazine- is that Joël Lodé seems to me to be an honest person, always willing to share his great experience of cacti .
He always responded when I had to join him.
But each experience is different .

I have had better success with seeds from Aymeric de Barmon, who has a great selection, and having met him at ELK a year or two ago, is also a very knowledgable man. I have no doubts that Joel is also a good man, and when I ordered seeds, they arrived very quickly.
