Mammillaria echinocephala is not mentioned in Reppenhagen's 2 volume Die Gattung Mammillaria. I did find a photo of it on the web, http://www.piantespinose.it/photo%20collezione%20privata/MAMMILLARIA%20ECHINOCEPHALA.jpg. But it doesn;t look amazingingly new to me, something from the M. formosa group probably.

What articles have you seen? J. Martinez-Avalos is from Tamaulipas, and I know him from his identification of M. giselae, which is named after his wife. But I haven't seen any references to this new name yet. He also has named Mammillaria cielensis from a collection in Tamaulipas, though many people think that it is just a form of M. zublerae.

Ok...M. rodolfiana is cited by Mtz-Avalos under his authorship in his master's grade thesis of 98...with out more information (the year of his authorship not mentioned in his thesis) he mentions in the same way in his thesis to M. echinocephala but under the authorship of Reppenhagen also without cited the year....in regard to the latter species i think that maybe a orthografic error of M. chionocephala...

i´m in this moment working with a review of the family Cactaceae in Coahuila, Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas in cabinet and camp

Thanks for the help!!!!

OK, so probably another old name then, though I haven't seen it anywhere.

I'm hoping to get to NL, Tam, Coah, Gto, Qro and Hgo in April next year, so if you do get any more information on what they are, please do let me know.
