I have just had a batch of plants come in from Pilbeam which inculde M.lindsayi MH 09. I belive this is one of Manfred Hils collections from El Divisadero / Areponapuchi. Could any one tell me which location and when originally collected.
Another plant in the batch is labelled M.floresiana Rog 289. The Rog fieldlist gives Rog 289 has M.albilanata which this plant is not. So beware.
Thanks, Tam

I checked MH on Ralph Martins' Field Collector database site, and it came up with M. Haberkorn as the collector, not Hils which is what I also would have thought. I've not heard of M. Haberkorn before. Does anyone know what his area of collecting is? and whether MH is really M. Hils.

I did a little research. On the "acronym list" of our seedlist is MH Manfred Hils. And on our seedlist is a lindsayi cobrensis MH15 which came from Areponapuchi. No mention of MH 09, but it must be nearby MH 15. You have to wait for an answer till Plein is back from the Afm meeting in Klagenfurt next monday or tuesday. He will know, because I believe that Manfred Hils was travelling together with Plein and Rogozinski.
And I've never heard of M. Haberkorn too, Chris.

Hello Mark,
Your plant labeled as floresiana is probably M. floressi. But the fieldnumber doesn't fit.
I think there were made many mistakes when seed or plants arrived and the owner, in this case Pilbeam, could not read well the handwritten labels of Rogozinski. At least he could have checked the fieldnumber and the fieldlist of Rogo before selling them to you. Otherwise there's a new source of misunderstandings.

I potted up the plants. You are probable in that it is M.floersii. It is disappointing that some one like John should make such easy mistakes. He also lists a M.lindsayi has MM15.

As I side note... I found the article on the classification of Mammillarias in series Mammillaria in the new AfM journal, page 98, to be very interesting especially the bit were they say that the two plants that Hils named from El Divisadero and Areponapuchi have nothging to do M.sinforoensis and they suggest that could be independent further developments of M.craigii.

These are floressii, but remember that Mr Pilbeam is at a certain age that mistakes are done easily. I've noticed the same matter with a few other older big shots (no names M. sp MH09 Smiley-money-mouth M. sp MH09 Emo_wink. Hope that I, if I become that age, will be conserved like that.
