Mammillaria infernillensis Craig, The Mammillaria Handbook, 123, 1945-
Body;- Simple, somewhat flattened globose, with the apex sunken, 9 cm. wide. The tubercles are arranged in 13 and 21 spirals, are firm in texture, dull greyish green spotted white and four-sided but not sharply angled. They are 6-8 mm. long and 5-7 mm. wide at the base, with milky sap. The areoles are round to oval, with scant tannish white wool only in the youngest.
The axils in the flowering areas bear white wool but have no bristles.
Spines;- Central spines 1-2(4), 4-10mm. long, strong acicular, straight to slightly recurved, smooth, stiff, chalky white' to chalky lavender with dark brown to black tips, divergent porreot.
Radial spines 25-30, 2-10mm.' long with the upper ones the shorter, all setaceous to slender acicular, straight to tortuous, smooth, semi flexuous, white, slightly ascending.
Flowers:-Funnelform, appearing during the period April-June. Outer perianth segments pale green below, pinkish olive-green tapering mid-stripe above, very pale pink margins, linear lanceolate, tip acuminate,margins finely serrate.
Inner perianth segments deep purplish pink with a darker mid-line, pale pink to whitish very narrow margins, linear lanceolate to oblong, tip
acute to obtuse, margins entire. Filaments white below,pale purplish pink above. Anthers sulphur yellow. Style white to cream, pink above. Stigma lobes 4, yellowish olive-green to tan with a pink back stripe, 1mm. long, overtopping the anthers by 3 mm.
Fruit; - Light pink, clavate, 12 x 4 mm., with the dried perianth persisting.
Seeds;- Light brown, curved pyriform with a lateral hilum near the base, faintly pitted, slightly glossy, 1.1 by 0 . 7 mm.
Type Locality;- Infernillo, Queretaro.
Distributions - Queretaro and Guanajuato, Mexico.
