This spring I was for the first time in my life in Tucson, Arizona. It was unbelievable! Most of the cacti have finished their flowering time, but some was shortly before. On a field trip I found some early bloomer Mammillaria grahamii. It was a really great moment in my life. That was the first bloom cacti that I've seen in habitat.

Here are some pictures of the root system of Mammillaria grahamii grown up in their habitat near Tucson, Arizona.

These plants are official and legal dug out during a cacti rescue action of the Tucson Cacti and Succulent Society rescue crew. I was invited to help rescue some plants.

Hi Ralf,
I also was in Southern Arizona this year, in the second half of April, and also found Mammillaria grahamii in flower.
Here's a photo of one of the locations:

They were glorious and after seeing so many which weren't in flower, I didn't know why these were, other than location, I guess.

and another plant at the same place:

I was in May to June for two weeks only in Tucson. A friend there told me, the main bloom time of Mammillaria grahamii begins normally in middle of July during and after the summer monsoon time. I think some plants are bloom earlier in the year and it's normal.

After my adventures in the "holy country", one Mammillaria was on my "must have" list.
