Before christmas I obtained a couple of the the above plants. They were labeled has M.lasiacantha RS 571 (Roman Stanik). Location...Km163, Route 40, before Cerro Bola, Coah.
Over christmas I was reviewing Wolter ten Hoeve articles on ' M.lasiacantha and related taxa '. In part 3, which appears on page 196, AfM 32 (4) 2008 he makes the comment that M.lasiacantha lacks the ability to form a central spine, so this got me thinking what could this lasiacantha ilke plant be ?
I started working my way throught other journals and found, what I believe is the answer in the UK Mammillaria Society Journal, 45 (2) 2005, page17. In an article by the Fitz Maurices's on ' The tangled taxonomic web of M.stella de tacubaya and M.gasseriana' is a photograph of the same plant labaled M.gasseriana WAF 2289. I E-mailed the above photo the the Fitz Maurice's and they came back with a reply saying that they thought (without seeing a live plant) that their WAF 2289 was the same has this RS 571.
Does anyone else grow this and could offer futher comment, possilbly having a more mature plant which may have flowered and could post a picture.
