PostSubject: Lau 1116 ??   Thu Jun 04, 2009 4:12 pm

I have this plant as Lau 1116, bought originally under the name of lanata. This is it's first flower since I bought it in 1993, so its not a fast grower - for me at least!
The Lau field list has this number down as lanata ?, from w. San Juan Bautista Cuicatlán, Rio Obos, 600-700 m, Oax., so there was even then some uncertaintly as to the name.
Does anyone recognise the plant - and can confrim of deny its name.
I don't think it is lanata, but looks more like a crucigera ssp grandinosa, or even huitzilopchtlii to me.
Thanks in advance.

Hello Chris,
no you are right, your plant isn't M. lanata.
Several years ago, I got seeds under the name M. Lau 1109b.
You know, 1109 is M. tlalocii and I think 1109b is tlalocii also.
Here a photo of this plant. She grows really very slowly.

I believe, it is the same as your. What do you mean?
I cannot find Lau 1109b in any lists.

Best wishes and it has worked with host a photo.

Thanks
Holger

Thanks Holger,
Your plant is very similar to mine. The difference is with the central spines. Your looks to have 2 darker, short, which is in accordance with the description of tlalocii. Mine looks to have no central spines.
M. grandinosa is described as having no centrals.
But, if indeed my plant is L1116, its location (San Juan Bautista Cuicatlan) is 28km north of where M. grandinosa was found (San Juan de los Cues). I guess that might not be significant.
Maybe we'll see in some more years, as tlalocii is supposed to stay single, whereas grandinosa offsets like crucigera.
