PostSubject: Surplus Seedlings   Sun Aug 03, 2008 4:51 pm

It occurs to me that I shall have surplus seedlings from my sowings. So what to do with them?

Do others have this problem?

If so, would it be a good idea to list them and see if we could arrange swaps between people. I know postage is a cost, but there are times when we might be able to get around that, for example if people go to ELK.

One of the big issues facing us is the restriction on fresh habitat seeds from Mexico, and this means that we mostly have to rely upon seed producers making sure that there is no crossbreeding. It also means that for a number of species, we are limited to a very few existing clones. But even so, it is important that we try to preserve what we have, and hence this suggestion that seedlings grown from documented seed are not consigned to the dustbin, simply because we cannot pass them on to others.

Let us know what level of interest you might have....

Wel, this didnlt get any level of interest, so I'm now posting my list of what I have available to swap. I'm only really looking for seedlings with field collection numbers. Don;t worry about what you call the plant, so long as there is habitat data.

Mine are:

Mammillaria albilanata ssp oaxacana 'juxtlahuacensis' TL205 **
Mammillaria canelensis ROG649
Mammillaria canelensis ROG651
Mammillaria cobrensis ROG642
Mammillaria craigii ROG637
Mammillaria crassimammilis L1069 **
Mammillaria droegeana RIVAS **
Mammillaria glochidiata ssp xiloensis ML045 **
Mammillaria hahniana sps mendeliana ML234 **
Mammillaria heyderi ssp heyderi ML120 **
Mammillaria karwinskiana 'confusa' ML384 **
Mammillaria lasiacantha ML538 **
Mammillaria lasiacantha egregia SB30 **
Mammillaria lasiacantha ssp magallani SB143
Mammillaria maycobensis ROG222
Mammillaria prolifera (Vilardebo, Cuba)
Mammillaria schiedeana ML149 **
Mammillaria sinforosensis ROG641
Mammillaria temorisensis ROG645
Mammillaria temorisensis ROG653
Mammillaria tepexicensis FO-177 **

Nice list Chris.
I hope that there become a sort of swap of seedlings and plants on the forum and that there's gonna be more interest.
