PostSubject: Watching them grow   Thu Aug 21, 2008 12:04 am

I will admit to being anxious to see my seedlings grow up. I have several mammalaria varieties growing right now. The seedlings are about 4 weeks old and some still look like just small green blobs in the soil. So my question is this
At what age might I see a bit of change that lets me know they are coming along alright? I know different species grow differently none grow at the same rate. But in general.
As I said I am just anxious to see them grow. Patience has never been one of my strongest points Laughing
Take care
Wendy

I understand that all too well, the impatience with seedlings.

I'm afraid it does depend on species. Some grow quickly, others really rather slowly. Some of the slow ones are also small ones, so it is often difficult to see them developing. If they are green blobs, then they would seem to be fine, and you jus thave to let them go at their own speed. A good magnifying glass might help you see the young spines starting to develop though...

But I'd expect to see some first spines on a number of species at about 8 weeks, som esooner, some a lot later.

Thanks. I am going to get out this weekend and get a good magnifying glass. I have one for doing crafts but that just doesn't cut it for me. Doesn't bring those little green guys into a very good light at all
Also this weekend heading to a local nursery, supposed to be for my cousin to pick up some hanging tropicals for her house. But..... they have this wonderful cactus greenhouse that just draws me right there. lol
Take care
